2015
DV DIRECTOR: ‘Allergic to Life’ (Taster): RDF Television for SKY
Content: A short 10 minute taster about the patients attending Addenbrooke’s Allergy Clinic and the doctors who are trying to transform their lives.
Role: I was given the sole responsibility of setting up this taster; researching, shadowing and building relationships in the hospital and then casting patients for the following week to shoot not only in the hospital attending their appointments but also filming them in their own homes. Recognising strong characters and potential narratives was vital, as was maintaining good access with the hospital and all the staff working there. I had a small team of an AP and a researcher to manage as well during the production. I also edit produced the film over just a few days, in order for us to be able to deliver the taster to SKY as soon as possible.
SHOOTING ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘Hole in the Road’ (1x60mins): Landmark Films for BBC1
Content: A one-off documentary about the people behind the high-vis jackets fixing Britain’s roads and the locals whose lives have been affected.
Role: I came on board to help find additional stories around the UK to supplement the footage already shot at the end of last year. I researched, cast and then produced and self-shot these stories on my own. I sent detailed notes to the edit along with my rushes to highlight potential story lines to use, as time was of the essence to get the programme finished.
2014
SHOOTING ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘An Hour to Save your Life’ (3×60 mins): Boundless for BBC2
Content: The second series of this medical science documentary explores the life or death decisions facing doctors in the first critical hour of emergency care.
Role: I worked primarily on the specialist neonatal care episode, building and maintaing access, recruiting clinicians and parents, then following the in depth emergency medical care of their babies. Filming everything from c-sections with babies needing neonatal resuscitation to open heart surgery on a 3 day old baby. I also helped to film on the intense trauma and fast response car shifts we followed with the London Royal Infirmary.
SHOOTING ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘Warts and All’ (6 x 60 mins): betty for TLC
Content: A new Obs Doc series following a host of characters from around the country as they each go on a personal journey to find not only themselves, but also hopefully love along the way too.
Role: I worked with several PDs across the series; assisting on location with camera and sound, self- shooting, helping to script and direct scenes as well as organising our shooting schedule, liaising daily with contributors in order to maintain and manage access over several months as well as carrying out recces on potential new characters.
DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘Lost and Starving’: betty for Discovery Channel
Content & Role: Development project for Discovery to create a new Survival series with a foodie twist. I worked in a team of just myself and the Series Producer, both of us having teamed up at the end of 2013 to put together another development proposal for Discovery. I casted for the 2 presenters needed for the show as well as researched locations and content. The series has since been commissioned into a 6 part series and went into production in Autumn 2014.
SHOOTING ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘Extreme Jobs – Rock Lobster Fishing’ (1 x 60 mins): Boundless Productions for BBC3
Content & Role: A new 6 part series which gives three young Brits in their twenties the chance to escape their minimum wage jobs & dole habits by taking on some of the toughest but most lucrative jobs in the world. I worked on location in Western Australia with 2 PDs; Independently self-shooting daily as well as helping to establish further contacts in the town and maintain relationships with the local fishermen and their families. In addition to the location filming in Australia, I also organised and went out on all of the Backstory filming for the cast before flying out.
2012 – 2013
ASSISTANT PRODUCER: ‘Megastorm: World’s Biggest Typhoon’ (1 x 60 mins): ITN Productions for Discovery Channel
Content & Role: A fast-turnaround proposal on Typhoon Haiyan, which I worked on directly with the Head of Factual and Features at ITN in Development and then was subsequently asked to AP on the production. Our small but determined team had only 3 1⁄2 weeks to put the programme together. I researched not only facts but also potential contributors from around the globe and coordinated shoots both in the UK and abroad, with several different crews. I managed the archive with the other AP all the way from ingest through to the edit. Given that time was so tight, I also helped to edit produce some of the content for the episode.
